This  Month's Book:

A Cook's Tour by Anthony Bourdain
Monday, June 3, 2019 7:00pm

It's been a year since Anthony Bourdain committed suicide while filming his CNN travelogue, Parts Unknown. We'll look back at Tony's influence on his audience as a chef, a traveler, and an eater through his work chronicling those travels.

About Soup to Nuts

Who We Are

Soup to Nuts is a monthly book club that meets to discuss books about cooking, kitchen technique, ingredients, food history and anthropology, restaurants, chefs, food culture or any food-focused memoir or novel. Monthly book selections are nominated and chosen by the group members. All individuals with an interest in food and how food relates to broader societal issues are welcome to join.

What We Read

Any food-focused work of fiction or non-fiction may be nominated as a monthly selection. Members are encouraged to nominate works by diverse authors with a wide range of perspectives that address the many societal issues raised by the topic of food. Cookbooks (i.e. a book containing primarily recipes and food photography) may be nominated, but only twice per year may a cookbook become a monthly selection.

How We Choose and Discuss Books

The Group Moderator has chosen the first six months of books to get the group started. In August, 2019, the group will begin selecting books to read from member suggestions.

A discussion moderator will come prepared with several questions to present to the group for discussion. The discussion will also be allowed to meander naturally to other topics.

If you nominate a book and it is selected, you may moderate the discussion of that book. If you prefer not to moderate, the Group Moderator will do so.

Where and When We Meet

Soup to Nuts meets at The Book Cellar, 4736 North Lincoln Avenue, Chicago, IL on the first Monday of every month. Any change to this meeting place and time will be announced on this website and on The Book Cellar's site as well. RSVP is never required.  Feel free to join us at any time!
